What a realism tattoo is
A realism tattoo is meant to look like a photograph or a painting on skin. Instead of bold outlines it uses smooth gradients, real light and shadow, and textures such as fur, skin, marble or water. It can be done in black and grey or in full colour. Because the effect comes from tone rather than line, realism needs space: the more detail you want, the bigger the piece has to be so it stays readable as your skin ages.
What guests bring us
Look along our wall and you'll see a pattern. Portraits of mothers, children and partners. Lions, tigers, wolves, elephants and bears. Classical statues, memorial pieces and scenes from films and books. Some guests bring one photo; others build a full sleeve around a story — a grizzly bear with a blue-ringed octopus, a tiger wrapped in roses, or a tropical beach with a longtail boat to remember Phuket.
Bringing a photo for a portrait
For portraits and pets, the reference photo decides the result. Send the sharpest, largest version you have, with the face filling most of the frame and clear light from one side. Screenshots of screenshots lose the fine detail an artist needs. Your artist will tell you honestly if a photo is too small or blurry, and how big the piece should be to keep the eyes and features crisp.
Size, placement and sessions
Forearms, upper arms, calves, chest and back all suit realism because they give a wide, flat canvas. A palm-sized animal or portrait can often be finished in one sitting. Sleeves, back pieces and very detailed portraits are usually split over more than one session. If you're only in Phuket for a short time, tell us your dates when you ask for a quote so your artist can plan a design that is finished before you fly.
Booking a realism piece in Phuket
Walk-ins are welcome every day from 10:00 to 20:00, depending on artist availability. For bigger custom pieces and in high season (November–April), booking ahead guarantees your artist and date. Send your idea, placement and reference photos through the booking form or on WhatsApp and we'll reply with a free, no-obligation quote, usually within 24 hours. Every needle is single-use, sterile-packed and opened in front of you.
Get tattooed in the last 2–3 days of your trip. A fresh tattoo needs about 14 days away from the sea, pools and strong sun, so do your beach days first. Our aftercare guide covers the rest.
